Blog thumbnail in

Some of the most common issues that the world is dealing with over the last few years are environmental damage, employment, and nutrition. Thankfully, there’s one plant that can be a solution to all these and that is hemp. This super crop offers numerous health benefits, and on top of that, it can be used in producing a wide range of products, such as textile, food, rope, paper, biofuel, insulation, plastic, and so on.

Unfortunately, there has been lots of stigmas that surround this plant, which is a close relative of the marijuana, a controlled substance. In fact, hemp was banned for cultivation for many years.

Stigma Surrounding Hemp

Since hemp is part of the cannabis sativa plant, many think that this is the same plant that makes people high. But the truth is that you can actually use hemp as often as you want without getting high. In fact, you won’t feel even the smallest bit of hallucination.

People should know that hemp contains little to no THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the reason behind marijuana’s psychological effects on a person. Hemp contains only a maximum THC level of 0.3%, which is why it won’t produce any psychoactive effects or that feeling of high that marijuana users experience.

Why We Can Benefit From Hemp

A lot of people all over the country are suffering from malnutrition, thanks to the unhealthy foods that we feed our body every single day. The best part about hemp is that it’s a highly nutritious plant. It has the proper balance of fatty acids, which is essential for the body and it contains a good amount of essential amino acids.

Hemp is one of those few crops that can be possibly grown without the help of any pesticides since it doesn’t easily attract pests. Furthermore, it grows so quickly even without the help of fertilizers. Large and small-scale farmers can easily cultivate hemp and make money out of it. As mentioned, hemp can be used for a wide range of products, from clothes, rope, textile, food, insulation, and many more.

The Present Situation of Hemp

The Chinese army is now said to be one of the biggest users of hemp. They use it exclusively for their underwear, t-shirts, and socks since it’s capable of producing four times as much textile than cotton. What’s more, the material has antibacterial properties, which makes it a perfect choice for underwear and socks.

Using hemp is so much better than cotton for various reasons. 4% of the overall agricultural land area in the world has been used for cotton production, however, it uses 24% of the world’s fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. All these contain harmful chemicals can be damaging to the environment. With hemp cultivation, there’s no longer a need to use any of these chemicals.

Another thing that hemp can provide is an employment opportunity. The hemp market is getting bigger and bigger and companies involved in the manufacturing of hemp need people to help with the growth.
