Hemp is derived from cannabis, which makes some people wonder if it can give you similar effects to that of marijuana. The differences and similarities of hemp and cannabis can be a bit complicated to understand for the average user, especially in terms of their therapeutic benefits.

First of all, hemp is definitely not a dangerous drug. It’s made from cannabinoids that don’t contain any psychoactive components that can make one high. In fact, it’s more effective compared to other over-the-counter drugs.

Differences between Hemp and Cannabis

Whenever people hear the word cannabis, they will immediately associate it with marijuana, which is linked to THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, the component in cannabis that contains the psychoactive molecule and is responsible for the feeling of high that users feel when taking it. The biggest difference between cannabis and hemp has to do with the content of THC in each plant.

Both the cannabis and hemp are derived from the cannabis sativa plants. Hemp may be cannabis but the industrial hemp contains less than 0.3% of the psychoactive THC. Any product that contains higher than 0.3% of THC is considered cannabis, which is included in the government’s list of controlled substances. The THC in hemp won’t make you feel high even if you ingest the concentrated extracts derived from the cannabis plant.

What is Hemp Used For?

The stalks of hemp, which is the type that contains a small amount of THC, can be made into many things, from paper, rope, clothing, food, supplements, and more. Hemp seeds are also mixed with animal food to provide nutrients to pets.

Hemp is highly beneficial to our body. It contains the cannabidiol or CBD, the non-psychoactive component of cannabis that has been shown to help treat a lot of medical conditions including seizures, anxiety, inflammation, and cancer. The CBD works by interacting with our body’s endocannabinoid system, helping our body maintain an overall balance.

Hemp as a Drug

Hemp is highly beneficial in many ways. The biggest benefit that it can give us is its ability to provide us with a super effective treatment capable of curing almost all kinds of diseases. By definition, hemp is a type of drug but it’s not the one that people usually associate with addiction. Hemp has no potential to overdose and has almost no side effects. Sure, hemp is a type of drug but in a more positive aspect.

The problem with some people is that whenever they hear the word “drugs”, they immediately associate it with something negative. Hemp is a type of drug that comes with lots of medicinal advantages, something that other drugs can’t give. The recent approval of the 2018 Farm Bill proves that this is not a dangerous substance at all. According to the legislation, hemp has been removed from the list of controlled substances and can be legally produced and distributed in the market. There’s no other plant that can provide the many benefits that hemp can give us, especially in terms of therapeutic benefits.
